After his sister's death, businessman Marshall Hunter gains custody of his niece. Unused to children, Marshall struggles to connect with her. In an effort to make her more comfortable in her new home, he hires professional muralist Pace Barlow to personalize her room.

I liked how Amber Kell incorporated the overall theme of the series, the mysterious cookbook written by even more mysterious Granny B., by just having the cookbook inherited by the housekeeper, Ilona. I think it was very cheeky of Ilona to have continually made the cookies for courting for her employer, Marshall Hunter.To be honest, I really don’t know what happened with this story. I love many of Amber Kell’s books, so I was expecting her to give the characters in this book the same amount of love that she gives her other characters. While the characters were pleasant, they lacked a certain level of intensity. Perhaps it was because none of the characters really had ongoing problem in this book. Marshall and his niece had just lost their sister and mother, respectively, but Marshall was clearly dedicated to making the relationship with his niece work, and to helping her get past her loss. Marshall, who certainly had enough caring people around him to support him through this difficult time, didn’t quite need to have a boyfriend. Pace crossing his path was just a happy coincidence, and he decided to carpe diem.

This was a sweet story. One where my favorite character was the little girl, Alice.
I loved how Pace wanted to make it on his own - despite his family's connections. I found that admirable.
Marshall was a hard nut for me to crack. I wanted to like him, but I found that his character was more standoffish. I had wished he were warmer.
Ilona was awesome! Loved her!
I did really enjoy reading this story - it had both love, mystery, comfort and a balance to it. And, despite me not liking "instalove" stories, this only touched at that and then balanced out.

Where I come from, we have this regional dish which is made by throwing meat, potatoes, and macaroni salad on a plate and covering it with hot sauce. At first, that might not sound great, but it's delicious. That's how I felt reading this story.
This very short novella is a hodge-podge of everything. There's a cute hippie artist paired with a successful businessman, a little kid, a friend with mob connections, and "magical" cookies. There's flirting, a bit of steamy sex, a kidnapping, and a sweet happy-ever-after, along with a cast of oddball characters.
By the time I finished the story, I was completely charmed and delighted. I think whatever magic was in the cookies must have been infused in the pages. Pace and Marshall are sexy fun and Alice is a treasure of a girl. I'm so glad I picked this up.
Short enough to be read in about an hour, if you're looking for pure escape, this is the one for you.

I really loved this book. I wish it would have been longer. I loved everything about it the plot, the characters, the story, the little girl. Everything.
The main characters, Pace and Marshall, were perfectly made for each other. Pace is sweet, kind, giving, a creative artist. Marshall is the strong, assertive, wealthy, independent man who has had this 8 year old girl thrust upon him. He takes to being a father pretty quickly and adjusts to it very well. The little girl, Alice, is very sweet and has instant love for Pace, which is great.
The bit of action at the end was surprising. I loved how Pace used his friend to resolve the complication. I don't want to give it away, what happened and what Pace did. It was awesome, though.
I highly recommend this book. Amber Kell has been one of my favorite authors for a long time and anything she writes is really good. This short story is one of them.

This was just not believable. The story was rushed from beginning to end.The characters are two dimensinal caricatures, no one has any depth at all. Save your money. I'm returning this.
Wow this was great I Loved it I hope there will be more to come can't wait ... If you have never read any of Amber Kells book try them you will love them too.
